Okay, I am new here, but had to join this group. I am married and have 3 kids and own a patch that says I lived the 80's and another one that says I am the 80's. I was responding to a couple other posts and had to ask this question.
What is your all time favorite 80's song or band?
I actually have a couple. Band- Foreigner, was raised on it and love Steve Perry's voice. Too bad he is no longer with them.
Song- Has to be Hey Mickey by Toni Basil. It is the first song I ever learned in totality and walked around singing all the time. I also LOVED Sister Christian, though that one may be early 90's, All I remember about the video is a Nun and High Heels, RED High heels. Oh and guys with BIG HAIR and tight pants. lol

Re: Favorite group or song?
Mon, July 25, 2005 - 5:37 PMGood question, Heather, not necessarily an easy answer for me, tho ;-) as my fav band from around the 80's (U2) wasn't my fav band during the 80's, which was Led Zeppelin (which as you know was from previous decade).
However, most fav band of the 80's, most listened to during the 80's, throughout the 80's, overall in the 80's..?...?...?...was probably
Fav song from and therefore throughout much of the 80's can't just be one for me, but in no particular order, off top of my head, most favs are:
"Boys of Summer" by Don Henley
"This Time" by INXS
"Don't you forget about me" by Tears for Fears"
"Sweet Dreams" by The Eurythmics"
"The One I Love" and "Radio Free Europe" by REM
"With/Without You"--actually most of the songs off Joshua Tree by U2
"Every Breath You Take" by The Police
"I Ran" by Flock of Seagulls
"I Melt with You" by Modern English
"In Between Days" by The Cure
Most of the songs off of "Purple Rain" by Prince, like "Let's Go Crazy" -

Mon, July 25, 2005 - 6:01 PMoh yeah, forgot to put fav band during the 80's, of the 80's, throughout most the 80's (I put this off for last ;),...anyways....?...?... probably was, geez this is tough, but, sort of going by albums that I still have from the 80's:
The Cars, and mostly of their album "The Cars" -

Re: Favorite group or song?
Wed, July 27, 2005 - 3:28 PMThat is awesome. I was raised on the majority of the groups/bands you mentioned. I am a true product of a "classic rock" family. I am also one of those, I like last decades music, NOW. Last decade, most of it sucked. lol I can't stand the majority of the "music" on the radio today. My son is one of the ever popular cool rock kids, though. His aspirations as a 5 year old are to be the lead guitarist for a ton of different rock bands, Ozzy (the older stuff), Seether, Evanescance, Green Day, Metallica, System of a Down, POD, KillaBrew, Korn, and the list goes on. It is so funny to hear that, most kids want to be a cop or a fireman, but not mine. LOL It probably helps that daddy and mommy aren't stuffed shirt conservatives, but tattoed freaks, one of which is a nontraditional Pagan and the other is an independent professional wrestler. LOL -

Re: Favorite group or song?
Fri, July 29, 2005 - 5:45 PMYeah, like kids younger than I was when I first heard Ozzy and Metallica are digging them as fav bands currently out now, 20+ years later ;-o
While I was sort of similarly placed listening much to 60's - 70's music--though I personally don't care much for what is out now--I too rarely crack on a local rock radio station....

Re: Favorite group or song?
Fri, July 29, 2005 - 11:13 AMHmm... hard to just pick one. Some of my favorite singers/groups: Rick Astley; Suzanne Vega; Toni Basil; A-Ha; Bangles; The Cars; Taylor Dayne; Culture Club...
One of my all time favorite songs though would have to be 'Break Out' but Swing out Sister. For some reason, every time I think of or listen to that song I have good memories. Okay okay, another of my favorite songs would have to be 'Take on Me' by A-Ha. -

Re: Favorite group or song?
Fri, July 29, 2005 - 5:50 PM"Break Out" is another common song played in supermarkets these days--I like it better now (way better, in fact) than I did when I was an 80's kid, go figure.
And, there is a local radio station that plays 80's and 90's or "whatever is good," and I was busting a rib laughing/rocking yesterday crusing down the road (I happened to have a work vehicle with a radio which I did crack on) to 1) "Let's Go" by The Cars ("I like the night life baby,..." love that song!!!) and then 2) "Our lips our sealed," by the Go-Go's!
Good times ;-D -

Re: Favorite group or song?
Thu, October 20, 2005 - 10:24 PMAs a kid I also loved "Our Lips Our Sealed" as well as "We've Got the Beat" by the Go-go's.
There are a lot of great songs that I loved back then, but there were just as many songs that I detested too.
A few 80's songs I loved in no particular order:
"Let's Dance" David Bowie
"Billie Jean" Michael Jackson- video was bad ass!
"Spin Me Right Round" by ???
"Saturday Love" Cherelle
"Night & Day" Al B. Sure
"Cruel Summer" Bananarama
"Pop Music" and "Whip It" Devo
"Every Step You Take" the Police
"Uptown Girl" - probably the only song I like by Billy Joel!
"Ain't Nobody" Chaka Khan
"Big Fun" by ??
"Juicy Fruit" Mtume
"The Promise" When In Rome
"Rosanna" ??
"The Finest" and "Just Be Good to Me" S.O.S. Band
"Head over Heels" Tears for Fears - among many other songs.
"Back to Life" Soul II Soul
"Must've Been Love" Roxette
"Let's Go" Nocera
"Show Me" the Cover Girls
"Red Red Wine" UB40
"I Ran" Flock of Seagulls
"Need You Tonight" INXS
"Everybody" Madonna
"Personal Jesus" Depeche Mode (The song was released in 1989 wasn't it?)
"Lost in Emotion" Lisa Lisa - I remember skating to this at the local roller-rink!
So many groups that I enjoyed then and still do now- Prince, Pretenders, Sade, Tears For Fears, the Bangles, Teena Marie, Michael Jackson, the Cure, Mary Jane Girls. One of my first cassette tapes ever was Bobby Brown's "Don't Be Cruel" album! Ugh!!
Just the other week I heard that song "Eye of the Tiger" and I thought I was going to hurl! Just as bad as "The Heat Is On" By Glenn Frey or "Who Could It Be Now?" -

Re: Favorite group or song?
Fri, October 21, 2005 - 1:43 PMOh wow! That really took me back. I remember rushing to the TV to see Billie Jean.
I think Toto did 'Rosanna'. That song always makes me think of Joanna by Kool and the Gang.
